A crash and resulting fuel spill closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 in downtown Nashville for several hours Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. at mile marker 211, just past the split to Interstate 24 West, just east of downtown.
A spokesperson said a tractor trailer lost its trakhoe under the I-24 East bridge. Bridge inspectors were called to the scene to inspect the bridge as was equipment to remove the trackhoe.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area while westbound traffic was diverted to alternate routes.
The scene was cleared and interstate reopened by 4:20 p.m.
