NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A Smyrna woman has filed a lawsuit against Southwest Airlines after she spilled hot tea on her lap and suffered second degree burns.

According to the lawsuit, Angelica Keller was traveling from Nashville to Houston on December 28, 2011 and was sitting in the front row of the plane where no drop-down tables are available to passengers when the incident occurred.

Keller claims as she attempted to remove the tea bag from her cup, she spilled the water onto her lap.

The Rutherford County woman said the hot water spread quickly since she was wearing her seatbelt at the time.

In the lawsuit, Keller says she now suffers from permanent scarring from the burns.

She is suing the airline company for $800,000.
