CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

The mother of the three-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself earlier this month is now charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect.

Lisa Evans, 22, was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County jail Tuesday.

She told Clarksville police she left a pistol on her couch and when she momentarily turned away her three-year-old son grabbed it and shot himself in the stomach.

The shooting happened on September 8.  The child is still being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

According to a report in the Leaf Chronicle, the boy is now out of the intensive care unit and listed in stable condition.

Evans was released from jail on a $5,000 bond.
