Crews spent most of the day Tuesday battling a massive fire at a tobacco warehouse in Hartsville.
A spokesperson for the Trousdale County Sheriff's Department said the fire broke out around 10:15 a.m. at the facility on East Main Street located across the street from the county jail.
The spokesperson said the building, Holders Tobacco Warehouse, is an old shirt factory that had been converted into a tobacco warehouse.
Thick, black smoke could be seen billowing from the building.
Stanley and Vicki Holder own the business, which has been in their family for generations.
Stanley Holder told Nashville's News 2 the portion of the warehouse that burned was around 168,000 square feet and it is a total loss.
However, he said they got most of the tobacco out before flames consumed the building.
Hartsville Fire Chief Fire Jimmy Antony told Nashville's News 2 mid-afternoon he was "happy with the progress" but couldn't say the fire was under control.
No injuries were reported.
The fire marshal will investigate to determine the exact cause.
