Father charged after son, 5, nearly struck by car

A Clarksville father was arrested last week after his five-year-old son was nearly struck by a car.

The boy was nearly hit in the 2400 block of Madison Street around 6 p.m. last Thursday.

Police responded to the scene and found the boy had been left home alone.

Officers determined his father, Allan Ray Sorensen, was at work at Walmart.

Sorensen told officers he had no babysitter and had left the boy home alone 30 minutes earlier.

Sorensen, 28, was charged with child abuse and neglect and booked into the Montgomery County jail.

Police said Sorensen's sister took custody of her brother's son.
