A man was shot and killed Saturday evening in the parking lot of the Nashville West shopping center off Charlotte Pike.
The shooting happened around 7 p.m.
Metro police spokesperson Kristin Mumford said the victim, 30-year-old Joshua McLean, and his brother went to the parking lot to meet a buyer for an arranged sale of two handguns.
"Just before 7 p.m. tonight, the victim, Joshua McLean, came here to sell guns, apparently through an Internet related source, possibly Craigslist," she said. "He came here with his brother to complete a legal sale to the best of our knowledge."
The victim's brother reported hearing gunshots after McLean got out of the car. The victim tried to get away but fell.
Officers are still searching for the suspects.
"The suspect description at this time is at least two black men were involved," Mumford said.
Witnesses tried to help as they heard the gunshots.
"We were fixing to go into Ross and we heard gunshots and we saw people started running across the parking lot," said Krista Locke. "My husband came over here to see what was going on and a guy had been shot in the chest so he was trying to help another guy do CPR and it wasn't working. He was already gone."
Police remind people of the dangers that can come with prearranged Internet sales.
"We really want to encourage people to be so cautious when arranging these kinds of sales, Internet sales, with strangers," Mumford reiterated.
Police said McLean and his brother had a total of six handguns in their vehicle. All six were accounted for after the shooting.
McLean was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Metro police or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
