Wayne County man charged with 1998 child rape

WAYNESBORO, Tenn. -

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Wayne County Sheriff's Office on Thursday arrested and charged a Wayne County man with the rape of a child more than 14 years ago.

The TBI said the victim, who now lives out of state, when she was just 12 years old and living in Wayne County when the crime happened in 1998.

Johnnie Gray, 45, of Waynesboro, admitted to authorities he had a sexual relationship with the girl.

The TBI contacted the victim last week and she traveled back to Tennessee to cooperate with law enforcement in the investigation.

Gray was booked into the Wayne County jail on a $150,000 bond.
