As construction continues on the Ryman Lofts, applications will soon be accepted for those interested in living at the complex designed specifically for artists.
Located in the Rolling Mill Hill area of downtown off Hermitage Avenue, the 60-unit complex is comprised of one and three bedroom loft-style apartments and will open later this year.
The Ryman Lofts are a Metropolitan Development and Housing Authority project and will be low income housing.
Eligible artists must practice the unique creation and public display or performance of visual arts, craft, sound and performance art, theater and or dance and do so on a regular basis.
Applications for residence will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis with preference being given to artists.
Non-artists may also apply for housing at Ryman Lofts, but the applications of non-artists will not be examined unless an available apartment cannot be filled by an eligible artist.
MDHA said for a single person to financially qualify, their income would have to be around $27,000.
Once the tenant qualifies financially, the artist would go before a committee that will decide if they qualify artistically.
MDHA said they will likely look at the broad criteria of performance artists who might be required to submit a portfolio of their work, an artist's statement and letters of recommendation.
Interest tenants can download and read the Ryman Lofts Housing Application Guidelines posted at Nashville-MDHA.org.
The online application process opens at 9 a.m. on October 8 at RymanLofts.com.
Once all 60 units at Ryman Lofts have been filled and a waiting list compiled, the application period for Ryman Lofts will be closed.
