For the next several days the Donelson Christian Academy gymnasium has been transformed into one of the largest children consignment stores in Middle Tennessee.
Organizers of the annual Parent Teacher Organization's 2012 Fall-Winter consignment sale said there are 42,000 items for sale including children's toys, clothing, shoes and purses among other items.
"It takes us a full day to get all the racks set up and then it takes us three days to accept all the items in," explained Debi Karschner who has been running the sale for the last five years.
The sale originally started in 1991 as a uniform consignment sale for parents only.
Now the event is the largest fundraiser hosted by the Donelson Christian Academy PTO.
Last spring, the consignment sale grossed approximately $97,000 in three days.
Of that amount, 28,000 was placed directly back into the school.
Karschner said she believes the sale has continued to grow over the years partly because the PTO computerized the entire process.
"It allows the consigner to go on line every night after the sales to see what they have sold and see how much they have made and now they know how much they can spend," she explained to Nashville's News 2.
The consignment sale will be held in the school's gymnasium Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
On Friday, items will be half price from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Organizers told Nashville's News 2 they hope to raise more than $30,000.
