Marina fire loss exceeds $1 million

LAFOLLETTE, Tenn. (AP) - The owner of a Norris Lake marina has been on the phone, calling his out-of-state clients and telling many their boats have been destroyed in a million-dollar blaze.

Brian Costello, owner of the Springs Dock near LaFollette, told The Knoxville News Sentinel he got word of the fire when an employee across the lake called him shortly after 3 a.m. Monday.

The marina has 170 slips. Costello said about 60 boats burned, along with part of the dock.

The water craft lost included fishing boats, pontoon boats and ski boats.  Costello estimated the values at $20,000 to $30,000 each.

Chief Andrew Carroll of the Campbell County Rural Fire Service said surveillance cameras showed no one was on the dock and believes a boat battery started the fire.
