Kristen Wyatt
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A Middle Tennessee mother is holding a "Remembering Our Angels Candle Light Ceremony" next month on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.
Kristen Wyatt lost a baby and has joined other women who have suffered a similar loss to tell their stories and share in the healing process together.
Wyatt told Nashville's News 2 on June 27, 2010 she went into labor with her son.
"We got to the hospital and found out that our son had not lived. [We] had no idea that anything was wrong," she said.
Wyatt's said her loss inspired her to reach other to other mothers who have suffered similar losses.
According to the Hope Exchange, more than 500,000 women miscarry each year in the United States, while 26,000 pregnancies end in still birth and 39,000 end in infant death during the first year of life.
"Most of the time miscarriages aren't recognized as babies and as a mom, I know the day that you find out that you're pregnant you fall in love," Wyatt said.
Each year on October 15, which is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, Wyatt invites Middle Tennessee families who have suffered a miscarriage, still birth of loss or a baby in their first year of life to light a candle in their honor.
Last year the group unveiled the Angel of Hope at Heritage Funeral Home/Maury Memorial Gardens in Columbia.
Wyatt believes when families talk and acknowledge their loss it aids in healing.
Remembering Our Angels candle light ceremony will be held October 15 at the Heritage Funeral Home Maury Memorial Gardens in Columbia at 6 p.m.
