Three men were arrested Friday morning after officers at Hunters Lane High School discovered they had brought a loaded handgun on school property. Police said Anthony Pirtle, 22, Christopher Williams, 20, and Jamarin Coates, 20, were stopped as they attempted to enter the school just before 11 a.m. A short time later it is believed the trio was let in the building through a side door by a student. A school official immediately noticed then men and took them to the school's office for trespassing. While in the office, two school resource officers recovered the weapon from a backpack one of the men was carrying. The men reportedly told police they were at the school to meet a friend during their lunch hour and that they were unaware the gun was in the backpack. The trio added they brought the backpack with them in an attempt to "blend in." Pirtle and Coates are both charged with carrying a gun on school property and criminal trespassing. Williams, a felon, is charged with possession of a weapon, carrying a gun on school property and criminal trespassing.
