Car bursts into flames after crashing into pole

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A car burst into flames after the driver slammed into a pole early Friday morning.

Police responded to the incident around 4:30 a.m. on Tampa Drive off Harding Place in south Nashville.

According to police, the driver claimed that a bug landed on him and as he tried to get it off, he ran off the road and hit the pole. The car then burst into flames after he and the passenger escaped the car.

No injuries were reported, though the car is a total loss.

The Nashville Electric Service said the pole was not significantly damaged.

Tampa Drive was shutdown while crews cleared the scene.
