DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - Decatur police have charged a 22-year-old man with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl he met on Facebook.
Authorities say James Overton of Hartselle is charged with second-degree rape and enticing a child for immoral purposes. Both charges are felonies.
Police say Overton turned himself in Thursday on several unrelated misdemeanor arrest warrants. He was questioned by detectives and was charged in the alleged sexual assault.
Investigators say the man met the girl on Facebook and picked her up at a home in Decatur in July. He allegedly took her to a motel where they had sex.
Overton is being held on $7,500 bond. Court records indicate he doesn't have a defense attorney.
