A Rutherford County elementary teacher was taken into custody after she broke into her fiancé's apartment and assaulted him.

According to police, the incident involving Amanda Bevis occurred on Sunday at an apartment located in the 1200 block of Hazelwood Street.

The 37-year-old teacher is said to have gone to the complex after she was told by a friend her fiancé, Gerald King, was at the apartment with another female.

Bevis admitted to police she forced her way into King's home, damaging the door frame in the process.

Police reported King confronted Bevis after she gained entry to his home.

Responding officers said King had multiple scratch marks on his arms, face, throat and neck.

Bevis was taken into police custody and charged with assault and aggravated burglary.

Police estimate she caused around $300 in damages.

Bevis teaches fourth grade at Barfield Elementary School.
