KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee track team member Tyler Anderson has been charged with domestic assault and vandalism after police say he beat his ex-girlfriend with his right arm, which was in a cast at the time.
Knoxville police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said Wednesday that Anderson, a long jumper and triple jumper, is accused of striking his ex-girlfriend in the face, nose and jaw. DeBusk says Anderson also caused scratches on both her arms and bruised her legs. The fight allegedly occurred at the home of Anderson's ex-girlfriend's mother.
DeBusk says Anderson ripped the mailbox out of the ground and threw it onto the road as he was leaving.
Tennessee athletic department spokesman Jimmy Stanton says officials are aware of the incident, gathering facts and evaluating his status on the team.
