Mom leaves son alone at motel to go out drinking

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -

A 29-year-old mother who was in Cookeville over the weekend visiting her young son was taken into police custody after leaving the boy alone in a motel room.

According to a report from the Herald Citizen, Jennifer Perron of Milan, Tennessee, about 135 miles away from Nashville is charged with child neglect.

The paper reported someone at the Clarion Inn located on South Jefferson Avenue called police to report the child Friday night.

Perron is said to a have returned to the motel later where police were waiting for her.

Responding officers reported upon her arrival Perron smelled strongly of alcohol.

The mother is said to have changed her story multiple times, before it was determined she left her son to go drinking at a local bar.  

Perron does not have custody of her son.

The boy's father was notified of the incident. The child remains in his care.

Perron was booked into the Putnam County jail on a $25,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court October 22.
