CARTHAGE, Tenn. -
Union Heights Elementary School in Smith County has been evacuated Thursday morning following a chemical spill.
Initial reports indicate a janitor was cleaning a bathroom when a chemical splashed into his face.
The incident occurred before 10 a.m. at the school located on Lebanon Highway in Carthage, about 45 miles east of Nashville.
The janitor was seriously injured and taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Smith County's emergency management agency is on the scene investigating.
