KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -

A snake popped its head out of an air conditioner vent and startled a driver on Interstate 40 in Knoxville.

According to WBIR-TV, the motorist pulled to the side of the highway and called for help.

"I calmly and slowly turned on the turn signal, pulled off the road, set the brake, turned on the hazards, looked in the mirror to make sure there was nothing coming in the lane beside me and then bolted from the car as quickly as I could," Jim Tipton told the TV station.

Tipton eventually had his car towed after animal control was unable to remove the snake.

When workers tore apart his dashboard, they initially couldn't find it.

The snake was eventually discovered dead inside the car, deep inside the heating and air system.
