NEW YORK -
Former Belmont men's tennis assistant coach Brian Baker won his first round match at the U.S. Open held Wednesday afternoon in Flushing Meadows, New York.
The Nashville native beat Jan Hajek in straight sets: 6-3, 6-4, and 6-2.
It was Baker's first win at the U.S. Open since 2005, his last appearance in the championship.
In the victory, Brian won 77% of his first serves and had 35 winners.
He will now face No. 8 seed Janko Tipsanevic in the second round. That match will most likely be scheduled for Friday.
