Make-A-Wish donates TVs in honor of cancer patient

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The Make-A-Wish Foundation donated 11 new flat screen televisions to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville in honor of a Middle Tennessee teen who lost his battle with leukemia.

Chad Crabtree of Manchester was diagnosed with cancer in 2010 when he was just 15 years old.

While in the hospital, the teen was often cooped up in his room.

"When you're in the hospital, especially when you're going through leukemia or any other immune deficiency, you're restricted to a room," explained her father, Greg Crabtree.

To pass the time, the teen often played video games and watched movies on antiquated equipment.

"We joked about it sounded great, you just couldn't see it," Greg said.

Chad's disdain for the televisions grew so strong it earned the family a reprimand.

"We got in trouble for sneaking in his TV to play Xbox," admitted his mother, Shannon Vickers.

Before losing his two-year battle with the disease in April, Crabtree was approached by Make-A-Wish of Middle Tennessee.

"He just wished they had newer TVs here because he hated the old TVs," Shannon said.

On Friday night, the late teen's wish was granted.

The new television sets are designated especially for the sixth floor Myelosuppression Unit at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

Each of the flat screened TVs is marked with a plaque that reads, "In Memory of Chad Crabtree."
