A Columbia woman says her daughter is lucky to be alive following an accident that left her critically injured.

Nikita McGuire, 37, was involved in a two-vehicle rollover wreck around 6 p.m. Tuesday evening in the 300 block of Bear Creek Pike near Patterson Drive in Columbia.

According to emergency responders, McGuire was trapped inside her SUV for over an hour as they worked to free her from the Ford Explorer.

McGuire was awake and talking to firefighters who eventually had to remove the roof of the vehicle.

"I can't imagine that and she survived it," mother Ondelere McGuire told Nashville's News 2. "When you see the vehicle, you can see the awesomeness of God because he spared her life.
He loved my daughter [and] he spared her life."

Nikita McGuire was flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where she underwent surgery for several fractures and broken bones.

According to the police report, the other driver, 50-year-old Gregory Morris, tried to turn left onto Patterson Drive when McGuire struck the passenger side of his SUV.

Morris told police he "blacked out" at the wheel, possibly because of a medical condition.

Morris and his 13-year-old daughter, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were treated for non-life threatening injuries at Maury Regional Medical Center.

"She's just been crying about the other people. [She asks,] ‘Were they hurt?' The thought of hitting someone and them being hurt is overwhelming," Ondelere McGuire said.

McGuire's mother added Nikita will have to undergo months of physical therapy during her recovery.
