WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. -

On Monday, Wilson County voters will get their say on a proposed property tax increase.

The increase of 22-cents per $100 dollars of assessed value will be discussed during a public hearing at the Wilson County courthouse at 6 p.m., followed by a county commission meeting at 7 p.m.

"It will likely be chopped down some," Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto told Nashville's News 2, adding. "But some other budget reductions may be considered as well."

The mayor said he is not taking sides on the issue because it is up to the 24-sitting commissioners to decide by majority what to do.

If passed, the property tax increase would help fund sanitation, roads, school buildings, county employee raises, as well as the general fund.

Wilson County last raised property taxes in 2008 by 15-cents.

The amount went entirely to schools.

The increase would raise taxes on $200,000 home by about $100 per year.
