Ben Goeser, 49, was shot at Jonny's Sports Bar in south Nashville.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Hank Wise was sentenced Wednesday morning to 23 years in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2009 murder of karaoke DJ Ben Goeser.
Judge Seth Norman convicted Wise of second degree murder for the April 2, 2009 shooting death earlier this year.
Goeser, 49, was shot at Jonny's Sports Bar in south Nashville and died at the scene.
Investigators said Wise had developed a fascination for Goeser's wife Nikki and had sent her inappropriate messages on MySpace.
Wise opened fire after Nikki Goeser told the bar manager that Wise's presence made her uncomfortable, prompting the manager to ask him to leave.
In testimony during the trial last April, the defense argued Wise is not guilty by reason of insanity, claiming that he suffers a severe mental illness called delusion disorder.
