NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police are looking for the suspect or suspects who broke into a family's home, stole their TV and possibly killed their pet.

The break-in happened over the weekend in the 1000 block of Pennock Avenue near Dickerson Pike and Cleveland Street in east Nashville.

Adam Eckert said he and his fiance were out of town.

He said their friend had checked on the house on Thursday and everything seemed fine.

However, when they returned home on Sunday, they realized someone had burglarized their home.

Eckert said someone threw a rock through their window to get inside, stole their 32-inch LG TV and possibly killed their indoor cat, River.

Police said they found the cat lying in the backyard.  The animal appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma.

"I don't know what kind of person would do that.  She never hurt anybody.  She was the friendliest cat I ever met," Eckert said.

Police said it's possible that someone other than the burglar killed the cat.

Eckert blames the burglar either way.  He said River would have never been hurt if their home wasn't burglarized.

Eckert posted an ad on Craigslist, warning others that someone had stolen their TV and killed their cat.  He hopes it generates some leads.

Police said they are following up on one lead but so far they have no suspects.

Anyone with information is urged to call Metro police or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
