A Bellevue resident awoke Wednesday morning to find a car in his neighbor's home after it had been sitting there for hours.Emergency crews responded to the home located at 7460 Highway 70 South, across from Bellevue Road, just after 6:15 a.m.Neighbor Thomas Atwood told police he heard a noise around 1:15 a.m., looked outside and saw nothing so he went back to bed.Five hours later, when Atwood went outside to get his newspaper, he saw the car and called police."There was a man in a car. [I] asked if he was all right, he said yes, so I went home and called 911," he said. When emergency crews arrived, the driver, 26-year-old Robert Leavenworth, was still inside the vehicle but had crawled to the backseat trying to exit.He was not seriously injured and refused medical treatment.
Leavenworth, who was charged with driving under the influence three months ago, was issued a state citation for driving on a revoked license and a traffic citation for having no proof of insurance.He was not arrested. No one was home at the time of the crash.The homeowner was staying with a friend because he was scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday morning.He told Nashville's News 2 he has lived in the home since the 1970s and over the years it has been hit more than a dozen times.The homeowner said he had to postpone Wednesday's operation because of the damage to his home.
