Vols freshman Derek Reese undergoes shoulder surgery

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -

The basketball season will start at the University of Tennessee without freshman Derek Reese. Reese underwent surgery Tuesday at the UT Medical Center to repair a labral tear in his right shoulder.

Tennessee Associate Director of Sports Medicine Chad Newman estimated it would take Reese approximately six months to recover.

Reese is a true freshman guard from Orlando, Florida.

He enrolled in school this summer and traveled with the Vols in their recent tour of Italy but did not play due to the injury.
