A Vanderbilt doctor has been placed on probation after testing positive for alcohol.

According to a report in The Tennessean, Dr. Colleen M. Brophy, a vascular surgeon, became nauseated and light-headed while performing surgery last July.

A second doctor had to step in and complete the operation.

The newspaper reported Brophy was taken to the hospital's emergency room where she underwent an alcohol blood test.

The blood work reportedly found her to register a 0.079 for alcohol.

The doctor later admitted to drinking the night before the operation and that she was using alcohol to self-medicate depression symptoms.

Brophy was suspended from Vanderbilt last November and has since been placed on five year probation.

She remains a faculty member at Vanderbilt.

Brophy has worked at Vanderbilt since 2008.
