SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. -
Carmike Cinemas across the country were on high alert Friday after multiple bomb threats were made to movie-chain, but with no specific targets.
The threat was made to Carmike Cinemas' headquarters in Columbus, Georgia. Nine bombs were said to be in theaters across the country.
Many cities, including Springfield, sounded the alarm for help.
The manager at the theater, located at 718 South Main Street, called police as a precaution after learning of the threat.
"We just got the basics initially, basics that a threat had been made," Springfield police Chief David Thompson explained.
"As a municipal, city leader, we know that we too are going to suffer all of the atrocities that now threaten America," City Alderman James Hubbard added. "It was just a matter of time."
Police, fire and EMS were called to the theater. Nothing was found.
Still, police don't regret their actions.
"You have to take all of them as serious threats. Any time there is a threat of that nature, you have to take it seriously," Chief Thompson said, adding, "You can't afford to be wrong on one of these."
Movies at the Springfield movie theater will show as scheduled Friday night.
