Convicted thief arrested for stealing police bait car

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police arrested a convicted thief after he stole a police bait car on the shoulder of Interstate 24, north of downtown.

Police said Johnny Saxon tied a rope to the SUV, which was equipped with special electronic equipment, and pulled it with his Ford Explorer to a nearby salvage yard.

The 43-year-old man was taken into police custody at a salvage yard located on Buck Hill Road.

Saxton was previously convicted of two felony theft counts in 2011.

Police said they will continue to work to identity people who steal vehicles for salvage.
