Goodlettsville team advances in World Series

A Goodlettsville baseball team is advancing in the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The Goodlettsville All-Stars beat the Kearney, Nebraska 12-1 Thursday night.

The team of 12 year olds is the first to represent Tennessee in the Little League World Series in 25 years.

"We're excited, I mean this is just an awesome experience." said Brad Woodis, father of a Goodlettesville little leaguer, "We went down last Friday to see the southeast regional and watched the boys win it. The whole community is rallying around the kids."

On Thursday night, the Middle Tennessee community hosted a watch party in support of the hometown team.

Hundreds gathered on the field at Moss-Wright Park to watch the action live via satellite on the big screen.

Many wore white to show support for the Goodlettesville team.

Goodlettsville fan Jennifer Dolan told Nashville's News 2 she hopes the exposure will put the community on the map for youth baseball excellence.

"Everybody knows of Nashville, but nobody really knows of Goodlettsville" said Dolan, "I think it's going to be great across the nation for everybody to know where we are."

The All-Stars aer set to play Petaluma, California on Sunday at 1 p.m.  The game will air on Nashville's News 2.
