ALGOOD, Tenn. -
A 78-year-old Algood woman collapsed and died while at her mother's funeral visitation on Tuesday night.
According to a report in the Herald-Citizen, Brenda Ledbetter was receiving friends following her 98-year-old mother's death when she collapsed.
"Brenda had been there about 15 minutes and had already gone up to view her mother, [Hessie Hicks], then sat back down and after a few minutes went up to the coffin again," funeral director David Horner told the newspaper, adding, "Then, she just suddenly collapsed, and everybody thought she had fainted. We called 911, and the Algood police arrived very quickly and an ambulance took her to the hospital."
Ledbetter was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
It is believed she suffered a heart attack.
The family has scheduled a joint service at 11 a.m. Friday for the mother and daughter at the Algood Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home.
