Metro police have identified the man found shot to death Tuesday morning in an overgrown field off 33rd Avenue North and Felicia Street as 28-year-old Chijoke Ike, of Antioch.
Investigators said Ike's family called police late Monday night to report him missing. They told police they had not seen nor heard from him since last Wednesday.
The family had received information that Ike might have run into trouble while selling marijuana.
Overnight, officers located Ike's car parked along 33th Avenue North in west Nashville.
A search of the nearby field led to the discovery of his body.
Ike is believed to have been shot during a confrontation while trying to make a marijuana sale last Thursday, police said.
Detectives are pursuing strong leads as they work to identify the persons involved.
Anyone with information is urged to call Metro police or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
Ike was twice convicted of felony cocaine offenses in 2005 and 2007. He received three-year sentences for each conviction.
