NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Police say speed is likely to blame for a fatal motorcycle crash in the Belmont area late Monday night.
Metro police said Daniel Anderson, 27, was traveling east on Belmont Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. when he entered a curve in the roadway near Blair Boulevard, lost control of his motorcycle and struck a light pole.
Witnesses reported hearing Anderson take off rapidly from the area near the Circle "K" gas station before the crash.
Metro police Sgt. Mark Denton told Nashville's News 2 all drivers need to take caution on the roads.
"His friends said he was an avid rider, he knew how to ride [and] he was experienced," Denton said.
He continued, "This is the time when you start seeing a lot of motorcycles get out. It's time for everybody to be aware, not just the motorcyclist. You've [got to] ride responsibly. One simple mistake on a motorcycle can lead to severe injuries or death."
Investigators said Anderson was wearing a helmet. They did not believe alcohol or drugs were factors the crash.
