NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A Middle Tennessee man is looking for answers Monday night after his pregnant wife was hurt in a dog attack Sunday evening.
Expectant mother Stacey Rushing was not bitten, but said she suffered bruises after being knocked down when their dog Velvet was attacked by another.
"We are definitely lucky," Stacey told Nashville's News 2.
The incident occurred along Rayon Drive in the Rayon City neighborhood while Stacey and her husband Laws were walking their dog.
The couple told Nashville's News 2 a dog, possibly a pit bull, attacked their long-haired dachshund in the 400 block of Rayon Drive.
"The dog just all of a sudden came out of nowhere and just started viciously attacking us out of and pulled [Stacey] to the ground," Laws recalled.
While the dogs were fighting, Stacey said she was knocked down and bruised.
"I had our dog Velvet leashed and that is what drove me to the ground, mainly [the other dog] was pulling her. Then I knew I had to back away because I had other things to worry about," said Stacey, who is seven months pregnant.
She continued, "My knees hit the pavement first which took most of the fall, then I fell on my stomach, then more to the side."
Laws said he took his wife to a local hospital to be checked where she was admitted for observation.
Laws told Nashville's News 2 he talked to someone at the home where the pit bull came from, but was met with anger.
According to Laws, he spoke with police to make a report and tried to reach Metro Animal Control, which is closed each Sunday and Monday.
Laws said he is frustrated by the "lack of coordination between Metro police and Animal Control," on a matter like this.
"We just want our neighborhood to be safe and others to be safe in this neighborhood," said Laws.
Velvet is also recovering after being checked by a veterinarian.
The couple said they are not clear about where the pit bull is currently.
