Contractor makes changes at weapons plant

Posted:

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) - New leadership is being brought in for the government contractor managing a nuclear weapons plant in Tennessee.

According to The Knoxville News Sentinel, Charles Spencer will serve as acting president and general manager of the main contractor at the Oak Ridge plant since 2000.

The contractor said that Darrel Kohlhorst, the president and general manager for more than four years, has retired.

The leadership change appears to be fallout from last month's security alert at the plant, though the announcement did not mention it.

Authorities say three anti-war protesters cut their way through security fences and spray-painted slogans on the walls of the plant. An indictment charges the three with "depredation" of the plant. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
