NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The Nashville Predators presented a check for more than $151,000 to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt on Monday afternoon.
The donation was the team's fourth to the children's hospital over the past four years.
Officials said this year's donation will benefit the Nashville Predators Pediatric Cancer Research Fund, which is an endowed fund created by the team in 2010 to fund critical research for pediatric cancer.
"These kids are in the battle for their lives and a little bit of our time can bring a smile to their face," Defenseman Kevin Klein said.
President/Chief Operating Officer Sean Henry added, "When you have a treasure like Vanderbilt in your back yard and realize the amount of work, what's happening over here, the real work, something more important than winning a hockey game, something that's changing lives. For us not to get involved would have been irresponsible."
The Predators have donated more than $575,000 to the hospital and its programs in recent years.
The Nashville Predators first game of the 2012-2013 season is scheduled for October 12 against the Red Wings.
