COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -
A teacher at a Cookeville middle school put her training to good use last Friday when she used the Heimlich maneuver to relieve a choking student.
Prescott Middle School teacher Jan McReynolds told the Herald-Citizen in Cookeville that she went over to the table and asked if the student was okay.
When the student didn't answer, she knew it was time to do something,
"I was just in the right place at the right time," McReynolds told the Herald-Citizen. "Helping others is just part of it, part of doing what I hope anyone would do for my children and my grandchildren."
McReynolds said it took two Heimlich pumps to dislodge the piece of hotdog that had been blocking the girl's windpipe.
McReynolds also urged those that are not trained in CPR training and the Heimlich to get trained.
"You never know when you are going to be able to help someone," she said.
