A 65-year-old Murfreesboro man is accused of hitting a pedestrian who was on his way to worship at the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro on Friday.

According to a report in the Daily News Journal, 18-year-old Seifeldin M. Elashhah was walking west on the corner the intersection of South Church Street at Middle Tennessee Boulevard when he was struck by Gary Lockhart.

Elashhah, a native of Egypt, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.

Police said they located Lockhart a short time following the incident at a hotel room located in the 2000 block of South Church Street.

The paper reported Lockhart initially denied any involvement in the accident.

Lockhart underwent a sobriety test, which is said to have performed poorly on.

He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence operating a vehicle without insurance, among others.
