GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. -
Food forgotten on the stove could be to blame for a fire that destroyed a home in Goodlettsville Sunday night.
The home on West Monticello Avenue doesn't look too bad on the outside but it's a different story inside.
Smoke caused extensive damage to the kitchen and surrounding rooms.
Fire officials believe the house is probably going to be a total loss.
No one was injured however, two birds died in the fire.
District Fire Chief Donald Alford said, "We had two birds that were family pets and they were deceased from the smoke and we [were] able to find them, bring them out and the family is tending to them at this time."
The fire marshal will investigate to determine the exact cause of the fire.
