MONTEREY, Tenn. -
A Monterey woman was arrested this week for allegedly using drugs while pregnant, causing serious injury to her baby.
According to the Herald Citizen in Cookeville, Anna Parkinson, 28, was indicted by the Putnam County grand jury on one count aggravated assault after he son was born addicted to drugs.
Detectives said the baby was born in April. He was removed from his mother's custody after he began suffering from symptoms of withdrawal.
Parkinson tested positive for meth, Oxycodone and several other drugs during her pregnancy, the paper reported.
She later admitted to using drugs while pregnant and to "shooting up" with drugs the day before the birth.
The baby's health is improving and he remains in the custody of the state.
Parkinson is scheduled to appear in court next month.
