MEMPHIS, Tenn. -

Tennessee State University and Jackson State have reached an agreement to continue playing in the Southern Heritage Classic until 2019.

With the Southern Heritage Classic heading into its twenty-third year, founder Fred Jones announced that TSU and Jackson State agreed to reserve the second Saturday in September for each other at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium through the 2019 season.

"We are extremely excited and pleased to be continuing our affiliation with the Southern Heritage Classic," said Jones. "It is one of our premier football games every year that allows us opportunities to play one of historical rivals at a great neutral venue in the Liberty Bowl. We are looking for great games, competition and exposure for both universities for these next seven years."

"The Southern Heritage Classic has been a tremendous event for our football program and university," said TSU Athletics Director Teresa Phillips. "We are excited to continue this partnership for the next seven years and look forward to playing at the Liberty Bowl in September."
