SPRING HILL, Tenn. -

Family members are mourning the loss of a 20-year-old U.S. airman from Spring Hill who died at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The family was notified of David Maxwell Walker II's death Tuesday night.

They were told he suffered a fatal injury earlier that day at the Oklahoma City base where he worked as an aircraft mechanic.

David graduated from Spring Hill High School in 2010 where he was a member of JROTC.

"Ever since he learned how to talk he's always wanted to go into the military. That's always been his dream," mother Sarah Walker told Nashville's News 2.

The family was told there was no foul play involved in their loved one's death, but they do not know the circumstances and probably won't for at least a couple of months.  His death is under investigation.

"Not knowing is the hardest part," said Sarah Walker.  "You know, if somebody was with him or if he was alone. We don't know anything."

Sarah said she had not seen her son in nearly six months, but was able to keep in constant contact with him via text messages.

"The last one I keep looking at over and over. It [said] ‘I love you mommy,'" she said.

The mother added David was planning a visit to Tennessee to see his family next month.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
