Cane Ridge Elementary ready to open doors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Hundreds of students in Antioch will fill the hallways of a brand new elementary school on Wednesday morning.

Around 750 students are expected to attend Cane Ridge Elementary.

The new 90,000-square-foot school is LEED certified and will serve one of Metro's most diverse areas.

"We will be representative of the Antioch community. We will have nine kindergarten and nine first grades and then after that each class groups is smaller," explained Principal Donna Wilburn.

Wilburn previously told Nashville's News 2 the new elementary school will help alleviate potential overcrowding at other nearby schools.

"Schools were at full capacity and in some instances, over capacity, so Cane Ridge will help to relieve that," she said.

The new school, located on Ashford Trace, will employee 60 teachers and will provide a high quality learning environment for students.

Metro-Davidson County students are set to return to school on Wednesday for a half-day.

Friday marks the first full day for students.
