Church holds back to school bash for kids in need

COLUMBIA, Tenn. -

A Middle Tennessee church is stepping up to provide children in need with the necessary supplies needed to kick off the school year.

New Life Church of God in Christ located in Columbia is hosting a back to school bash on Saturday where attendees will receive school supplies, food, uniforms and clothing.

"We just want to make sure they have a good start going back to school," Pastor Christopher Taylor

Taylor told Nashville's News 2 the church receives phone calls year around from people in need of help with paying their rent, utility bills and groceries.

"You can even hear it in the sound of their voice when they call for assistance," Pastor

During the upcoming bash, White also said the Tennessee Career Institute will be on hand to provide attendees with free haircuts.

Wayne Pope of the intuition told Nashville's News 2 his students are thrilled at the opportunity to help out.

"The more that we are able to give to somebody else the more its going to actually return to you," Pope said.

The bash will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Life Church of God in Christ located at 317 East 18th Street.

Donations, including school supplies and uniforms can also be dropped off at the church.
