SMYRNA, Tenn. -
A 24-year-old convicted sex offender arrested last week for the rape of a child appeared before a judge in Smyrna Thursday afternoon.
James Harmon was arrested last Wednesday and charged with one count of rape of a child and one count of violating the state's sex offender registry.
Investigators said it appears that Harmon met his alleged victim in the playground area at Windsor Downs Apartments on Mason Tucker Drive in Smyrna where he lives.
In court on Thursday, Harmon told the judge he planned to hire his own attorney.
He is next scheduled to appear in court on August 28.
Detectives say Harmon often spent time at the Windsor Downs playground and there could be more victims.
Anyone who recognizes Harmon as someone who may have had contact with their child is urged to call Smyrna police at 615-267-5146.
