MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

A 21-year-old Missouri mother was killed and her infant daughter critically injured in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 24 south of Murfreesboro.

The wreck was reported just before 7 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-24 at mile marker 96, just north of Beechgrove.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Andrew Ivanchuk, fell asleep behind the wheel, overcorrected and traveled off the road and into the tree line.

Danielle Ivanchuk, Andrew's wife and a passenger in the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt and died.

Her three-month-old daughter was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

A report out Thursday afternoon stated the infant had died, though, Friday morning Vanderbilt officials explained the baby girl was still alive and remained in critical condition.

Andrew Ivanchuk, the baby's father and driver, was treated at a local hospital and released, according to the Daily News Journal.

The Ivanchuk's hometown is listed as Wildwood, Missouri in the THP report.

No charges were immediately filed.
