MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -
Murfreesboro police arrested a man for his fifth DUI Sunday evening during a routine traffic stop.
Gregory Russell was initially pulled over near Virginia Avenue and Middle Tennessee Boulevard for a registration violation.
During the stop, police detected an odor of alcohol and noticed the 42-year-old man had blood shot eyes and slurred speech.
Upon exiting his vehicle, Russell was said to be unsteady on his feet.
The arresting officer requested Russell perform a field sobriety test. He performed poorly.
Police reported Russell was driving on a revoked license at the time of his arrest and that he advised a friend gave him a 2012 registration sticker to be placed on his vehicle.
Authorities said Russell admitted to drinking a 24 ounce beer earlier in the evening.
Several empty beer cans were discovered inside the vehicle following a search.
Russell was taken into custody without incident.
