NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

LifeWay Christian Resources, the bookseller owned and operated by the Southern Baptist Convention, has removed DVDs of the film "The Blind Side" amid complaints.

A Florida pastor brought attention to scenes in the movie that contains offensive material including racial slurs, sexual references and innuendo and alcohol and drug.

The movie is based on the story of Michael Ohr who came from the streets of Memphis to a career in the NFL.

Following their decision to remove the award-winning film, LifeWay released the following statement:

"We've heard from our customers the differing perspectives about LifeWay's decision to no longer stock The Blind Side. We agree the movie as a whole promotes Christian values and a redemptive message, however it does contain instances of street language and racial slurs against African-Americans.

After selling the movie for nearly two years, LifeWay decided last month to stop carrying it because of the likelihood it would be the focus of debate and division at our annual denominational meeting.  We were electing the Southern Baptist Convention's first African American president, and did not want to distract from that historic moment."

Brentwood Baptist Church pastor Mike Glenn told Nashville's News 2 that in light of the election of Dr. Luter, LifeWay's decision is understandable.

"Dr. Luter is well respected and if there is anything that he says would clutter the message right now I think we need to pay attention."

LifeWay does not carry the book the movie was based on, but it does carry "Beat the Odds" a book by Michael Ohr, published by the Penguin Group.
