NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Nashville State Community College cancelled their evening classes Monday following an attempted armed robbery at a nearby business.

According to authorities, just before 4 p.m., an employee at Direct Auto Insurance saw a masked gunman outside the business located in the 100 block of White Bridge Road and hid before the suspect entered.

"As the suspect was jumping the counter, the manager was able to come from his hiding spot and flee out the front door," Metro police spokesperson Don Aaron explained.

The suspect also fled the area.

"We don't think this was a random act," Aaron continued.   "We think this gunman came in to Direct Insurance, he may have had a beef with this particular company or something of that sort."

Nashville State officials said classes were cancelled as a precaution.

A portion of White Bridge Pike was blocked off while authorities unsuccessfully searched for the man.

Anyone with information on his identity or whereabouts is urged to contact Metro polie or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
